Earlier this year, I read through a She Reads Truth study called Faith in Practice (recommended below). It did a phenomenal job opening my eyes to the world of spiritual disciplines and really helped my spiritual growth and development.
If you’re unfamiliar, spiritual disciplines are simply the things we do to deepen our relationship with God. But don’t feel overwhelmed by the word discipline. As John Mark Comer explains on one of the podcasts that accompany the study, it’s best to view these practices as just that…things we practice in preparation for eternity, not things you are supposed to do perfectly right now.
While just the tip of the iceberg, the resources recommended below will give you an overview of spiritual disciplines and dive deeper into a few specific practices.
I’m really excited to be on this journey with you as we learn and grow together. As you follow along on our social media channels (Instagram here and Facebook here), let us know what spiritual disciplines are most helpful for you.

This episode of the Crappy Christian Podcast features a conversation with author Gary Thomas. In the interview, Gary dives into how our wiring influences how we connect with God, reminding us that we all connect with God differently because of our unique differences. It’s a note-taking episode for sure, so have paper and pen at the ready.

She Reads Truth created this 28-day study on spiritual disciplines. The reading plan and podcast episodes are incredibly insightful and offer a wealth of information that will help you dive deeper into the topic of spiritual disciplines.

YOU’RE A COACH AND ENCOURAGER, NOT A PROBLEM-SOLVER
It can be tempting, as a mentor, to take on your mentee’s problems…you are wiser and more experienced. But remember, your role is to be a coach and encourager. To share your experience, point them to Scripture, and ask questions to help them think through the issue and lead them to their own decision.

Starting the conversation with your mentees can be hard sometimes, especially if you’re leading a group for the first time. To help you out, we created a fun conversation card to help get the ball rolling. These cards are great for your monthly meetings, family dinners, or even as a way to engage your mentees over a group text between meetings.
