In the Know, Vol. 29: Practical Resources to Help You Mentor
Equipping you to mentor well is what Known Collective is all about. It’s also why we create these In the Know newsletters. With that in mind, both podcasts and the article featured below offer practical and insightful tips to help you build authentic community as you lead your mentoring group. Check them out and if you find them valuable, pass them along to your current or past mentees!
We know the Scripture memorization element of a mentoring group can be challenging. As a mentor, feel free to replace our recommended Scriptures with ones God has used to impact you. But if you do use the ones we recommend, don’t miss the wallpapers we linked to below. We created these to give you a fun and helpful way to support your mentees as they memorize God’s Word.
And finally, if you want to gather with other mentors to share best practices and ask questions, we’d love to have you join our monthly Collectively Speaking conversations. The first one of 2022 is February 23 at 12pm ET. Reserve your spot here!
CRAFT & CHARACTER: SPIRIT + WORD WITH KEVIN QUEEN
This Craft & Character podcast episode features a great conversation between Steve Carter and Kevin McQueen. They shed light on making Scripture practical and accessible in our everyday lives. Take it along with you on your next trip in the car or walk around the neighborhood.
THE GROVE PODCAST: ABIDE AND REMAIN :: PRISCILLA SHIRER
When tough times come, it’s essential to surround ourselves with our closest people. In this episode of the Grove Podcast, Priscilla Shirer teaches on John 15, unpacking Jesus’s role as our most intimate friend, and showing us how to remain in Him no matter what.
Mentor Tip: If you experience a hard time during your mentoring season, share it with your mentees. Model how to have faith and trust God during seasons of struggle and allow them to support you as you’ve done for them.
THE SECRET TO FINDING AND KEEPING FRIENDS
The insights in this article from Lisa-Jo Baker are straight to the point, simple to implement and get to the heart of what Known Collective mentoring is all about. She writes that the best way to find friends is to “become radically invested in the people around you” and to be “the kind friend who draws us closer to God. Draws us closer to others. Helps us become the real person God created us to be.”
SCRIPTURE MEMORY VERSE WALLPAPERS
After hearing from mentors who wanted to help their mentees memorize Scripture, we created phone wallpapers for the verses we recommend as a part of each monthly mentoring topic. You can find them under each topic in the Tracks section of your Known Collective account. Once you’ve downloaded them, send them out to your mentees to use as they engage and memorize God’s Word. (If you don’t have an account, there’s a place at the link below where you can create one.)
