In the Know, Vol. 28: Learning From Other Mentors
Below you’ll find a few helpful resources as you invest in your mentees each month. The first is a link to our Collectively Speaking conversations from last year. We hosted these with the sole purpose of sharing best practices and learning from one another. The Overview Call is helpful for those just getting started with Known Collective, while the one about books is helpful as you equip your mentees to tackle the 9-12 books you will read together. There are a few other topics, and I encourage you to watch any that catch your eye.
Next up is an article from Radical Mentoring founder Regi Campbell that sheds light on the value of sharing the times in your life when you’ve failed with your mentees. And then don’t miss Radical Mentoring President Kevin Harris on the Confessions of a Crappy Christian podcast. His interview will give you a glimpse of the why of what we do and a few tips to use in your mentoring group.
One last super helpful tip as you get ready to lead your next (or first!) mentoring group is to schedule a call with your mentoring guide, yours truly :). I am here for you in whatever way is helpful. If you have questions, let’s talk through them. If you have stories of life-change from your group, I’d love to celebrate along with you. Finding time with me is easy; click the link below or reply to this email.
I hope to hear from you soon!

SIX REASONS MENTORS TELL FAILURE STORIES
How have you seen God show up in your life? When you’re leading your mentoring group, these are the stories you want to bring to your group each month. When we share our stories, we help others begin to see God’s hand moving in their lives as well. This article from Radical Mentoring founder Regi Campbell looks at the importance of sharing your failures as you lead your mentees each month.
CREATING SAFE SPACES FOR RELATIONSHIPS TO THRIVE
As the women in your group begin to share more and more of what they’re learning about themselves each month, make sure to affirm them in their growth. Discovering who God created us to be can sometimes be scary. The more your mentees know you’re in their corner, the more confident they will be as they ask themselves the hard questions that lead to growth. Check out the article below to learn how creating a safe space for your mentees each month is one simple way that will help you affirm them.
CONFESSIONS OF CRAPPY CHRISTIAN PODCAST EPISODE 97: KEVIN HARRIS
As a mentor, your job is to share your life experience, not have all the answers. It’s okay to say, “I don’t know, but here’s what I did when…” Or even, “I don’t know, what do ya’ll think?” Lean on the group’s experience and facilitate a meaningful conversation. Your mentees don’t expect you to know everything. They’re looking for honesty and a willingness to help them navigate the road ahead. This interview with Radical Mentoring President Kevin Harris is a great encouragement whether you’re leading your first group or your tenth group.
