In the Know, Vol. 21: Discussing Priorities
We’ve enjoyed exploring the topic of priorities through the journal and prayer prompts on our social media accounts throughout August. If you haven’t been following along, check them out on Instagram or on Facebook.
To help dive deeper into the importance of priorities, we’re excited to share the resources below, especially Lauren Vanderkam’s excellent TED Talk. You can pass this video along to your mentees when you discuss priorities. Or you can use the exercises she guides you through as conversation starters or growth partner assignments.
We encourage you to use these resources to help you review your current priorities and even redefine them if needed. Complete the activities and take note of essential ideas you encounter. And then share with your mentees what you’re learning. Watching as you prioritize during different seasons of your life is highly beneficial as they establish priorities in theirs.
A CALL TO SIMPLICITY
In this article, Kelly Minter writes, “the good things that tug on us get in the way of the best things.” This is often the case when sifting through priorities. We can identify quite a few good things we’ve got our hands in, but not always obvious bad things to eliminate. So how do we set or reset our priorities? Focus on the best things that most need your attention.

During Laura Vanderkam’s TED Talk on priorities and time management, she leads the audience through an activity to help set priorities for the year and also a weekly planning strategy to help follow through. Take a listen to this talk sometime soon and work through the exercises.
